Coming soon to Cal Worthington and his dog spot

German Loremo AG will introduce their ultra Efficient Car at the Motor Show 2006 (Link) in Geneva next week.

The car start-up developed a light-weight passenger car with outstanding aerodynamics.

The Loremo LS is powered by a 2 cylinder Turbo Diesel engine with 20 hp and 160km/h top speed. The thing is that the Loremo only needs 1.5l per 100km. This is approx. 157MPG.

The Toyota Prius hybrid has only 55MPG (combined city and highway).
With one tank (20l) in the Loremo LS you could drive 1,300km.

Loremo AG plans to sell the Loremo LS for less than 11,000 Euros (~$13,000).

One reason for the low consumption is the low weight of 450kg. The company designed the Loremo focusing on safety and efficiency and got rid of unnecessary functions. The car is small but still provides space for 4 (Hobbits).

Loremo AG also plans to offer the Loremo GS with a stronger engine (50 hp, 2.7l/100km) that reaches top speeds of 220km/h for use on the German Autobahn.

Loremo did not say if it will be offered in North America. More details and specs will be presented at the Motor Show in Geneva.

Is this too good to be true? I’ll wait and see.

call me overly cautious, but i'm not gonna get too excited about a car (or much of anything else) depicted only by illustration rather than photograph.   or one that ain't gonna be available til 2009.

otherwise, it's pretty cool.

Oh come on, all the tree huggers are jumping all over themselves like a pack of wild ferengi over this car. It’s really not a car, it’s a concept, and concept cars have a habit of disappearing when the motor shows are over. But it’s a neat concept, reminds me of years ago when SAAB built a 2 or 3 cylinder car that for the time got really good gas mileage.

If you want to buy a car go see Cal.
